How Starlink Works

Getting your Starlink Mini mounted, powered and online is quick and easy. Here's how

Starlink in plain English

What is Starlink?

Starlink is internet that comes from space instead of from a phone tower or a cable in the ground. A small dish (the Starlink Mini) talks to satellites passing overhead, and turns that signal into Wi-Fi for your phone, laptop or tablet.

No tower nearby? Doesn't matter. If the dish can see the sky, you're online.

  • Satellites in low orbit Starlink uses thousands of satellites orbiting around 550km up, about 65 times closer than traditional internet satellites. That's why it's fast, with none of the lag old satellite internet was known for.
  • Proper high-speed internet Stream Netflix and the footy, play online games, hold video calls and send big files, just like the NBN at home.
  • Calls and texts with no phone service Turn on Wi-Fi calling and your phone makes and receives normal calls and texts on your usual number, even in a total black spot.
  • Works almost anywhere All the dish needs is a clear view of the sky. The paddock, the Simpson, a truck stop out west or the middle of a cattle station.
Set up in minutes

Mount it, power it, get online

  1. 1

    Mount it

Fit your MEQ mount to the roof, roof rack or ute headboard. Choose magnetic feet for quick on and off, or bolt it down for a permanent, set-and-forget install.

  2. 2

    Power it

Run your Starlink Mini from a 12V cig socket, an Anderson plug or hardwire it. Our Plug & Play adaptors have our own circuit board inside to keep you powered on the road.

  3. 3

    Connect

Open the Starlink app, sign in or create your account and follow the prompts. Your Mini finds the satellites and you're online.

  4. 4

    Go anywhere

Work, stream and stay in touch from the paddock, the beach, the highway or the back of beyond.

Internet anywhere under the sky

How MEQ keeps you connected

No mobile tower needed. Here's how your Starlink Mini and MEQ mount keep you online, wherever the track ends.

  1. 1

On the move or parked up

Your MEQ mount holds the Starlink Mini secure on the roof, rack or headboard, on the highway, the corrugations or set up for the night.

  2. 2

    Locked onto the sky

The Mini connects to thousands of low-orbit Starlink satellites, while your mount keeps it steady over corrugations, potholes and long highway kilometres.

  3. 3

    Wi-Fi around camp

The Starlink Mini creates its own Wi-Fi network around your vehicle and campsite, with no phone tower in sight.

  4. 4

    Everyone stays online

Connect phones, tablets and laptops for work, school, streaming or a quick call home from the middle of nowhere.
