Steel Discs give your magnetic mount something to grip on aluminium, fibreglass and other non-magnetic surfaces. Each set of 4 comes with genuine 3M VHB tape. The bond is only as good as the preparation, so take your time.
You'll need
- Your Steel Discs with 3M VHB tape
- Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and clean, lint-free cloths
- Your magnetic mount, to mark out the disc positions
Step by step
- Mark the positions. Sit your mount where you want it and mark around each magnetic foot.
- Clean thoroughly. Wipe each spot with isopropyl alcohol to remove wax, polish, road film and grease. Avoid household cleaners, which leave a residue.
- Let it dry completely.
- Check the conditions. Fit between 15°C and 35°C. Avoid cold, damp mornings and hot, direct sun.
- Peel and stick. Remove the tape backing without touching the adhesive, and place each disc on its mark.
- Press firmly on each disc for at least 30 seconds.
- Leave it to cure. Wait at least 24 hours before fitting the mount or driving. Full strength is reached after about 72 hours.
Suitable surfaces
Best: smooth, solid surfaces such as painted metal, aluminium and fibreglass.
Avoid: textured plastics, vinyl wraps, flaking or freshly painted surfaces.
